The upazila administration and police seized 2.55 million sticks of counterfeit cigarettes and raw materials worth Tk 2.41 crore during a joint operation at a warehouse in Garbaria village under Daulatpur upazila, Kushtia, on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip-off, Daulatpur Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Pradeep Kumar Das led the raid on the facility, which was operating illegally despite having been sealed previously by RAB-12 and the Customs Department on May 9. The premises, owned by a local school teacher, were rented out to two individuals—Shakil and Leon Hossain—for Tk 40,000 per month.
Although no arrests were made as the suspects fled before law enforcers arrived, authorities confirmed that a regular case is being filed at Daulatpur Police Station against the perpetrators for defying court orders and resuming operations. Daulatpur Police Station OC Khaledur Rahman stated that legal proceedings are underway, and the administration reaffirmed its commitment to continuing such drives in the public interest.
