A recent video of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami leader and MP from Satkhira-4 (Shyamnagar-Kaliganj part) Gazi Nazrul Islam went viral on social media. However, the MP himself clarified in a written statement that the video was from an office in the capital's Moghbazar. He claimed that the young woman in the video, named Maryam Begum (18), is his second wife.

In a written statement, Gazi Nazrul Islam alleged that the incident took place on July 13 and that there was a well-planned blackmailing and extortion plan by his own driver behind it.

Describing the incident in the statement, he said that on July 13, he went to the business office of his second wife's father, Md. Masum Billah, located in Moghbazar, along with his first wife Mosammat Maksuda Begum, second wife Maryam Begum and driver Obaidullah. They stayed there for approximately one and a half hours. During their stay, driver Obaidullah cleverly arranged for 6 to 7 strangers to enter the office.

He alleged that the unknown persons entered the room and harassed him and his family members, demanding to know their identities. At one stage, they were taken to a tea shop below the office and demanded a ransom of 5 lakh taka. At that time, they were released only after paying some money immediately.

In the aftermath of the incident, Gazi Nazrul Islam learned that the mastermind behind the entire incident was his driver Obaidullah, who was the maternal uncle of his second wife.

The MP said that Obaidullah's brother-in-law had a family feud with his father-in-law Masum Billah. At around 10 pm on the day of the incident, Obaidullah demanded a ransom of 5 lakh taka from him and 1 million taka from Masum Billah. When he refused to pay the ransom, he was directly threatened with social humiliation and harm to the family using the office's CCTV footage.

The MP claimed that after not receiving the money, the driver, Obaidullah, used CCTV footage from the office to create a misleading and ugly video and spread it on social media. He described it as a deep conspiracy and an "attempt at character assassination" against him and his wife.

Strongly condemning such despicable acts, Gazi Nazrul Islam said that the entire matter was a staged incident. He demanded the immediate identification of the main mastermind of this conspiracy, Obaidullah, and exemplary punishment for those involved.
