Youths must remain vigilant against drug menace: Water Resources Minister Annie

Lakshmipur Correspondent

Water Resources Minister Md. Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie has called upon the youth to remain alert and cautious against the menace of drugs, accusing neighboring countries of intentionally flooding Bangladesh with narcotics to drain the nation's intellectual and developmental potential.

Speaking as the chief guest at a reception ceremony for GPA-5 achievers in the SSC and equivalent examinations from Sadar and Chandraganj upazilas at the Lakshmipur Town Hall Auditorium on Saturday , the minister emphasized that the government has prioritized education to build a drug-free, merit-based society.

Reflecting on the challenges faced by the current administration, Chowdhury noted that the government assumed office amidst a devastated landscape left behind by predecessors.

He underscored that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman places utmost importance on the education sector, citing recent policy milestones such as resolving long-standing pension crises for retired teachers and making education free for female students up to the graduation level to empower women and accelerate literacy rates.

During the event, the minister handed over crests, certificates, cash awards, and educational materials to over 400 meritorious students.

Presided over by Lakshmipur Society President Wahid Uddin Chowdhury Happy, the program was also addressed by Lakshmipur Science and Technology University VC Dr. Hanif Murad, DC SM Mehedi Hasan, District Council Administrator Sahab Uddin Sabu, and Lakshmipur Govt College Principal Md.
