3 arrested with weapons, ammunition in joint operation in Gazaria

A joint force led by the Army recovered firearms and ammunition during an operation in Guagachhia Union of Gazaria upazila in Munshiganj.
Three individuals were arrested during the raid. The operation was conducted in several villages of Guagachhia Union from early morning till 11 am on Tuesday.
The arrested individuals are: Syed Ali (65), son of deceased Amzad from North Jamalpur village; Iman (60), son of deceased Kaiyum; and Monir Hossain (29), son of Alam.
According to reports, a criminal group had long been secretly conducting terrorist activities in the remote areas of Guagachhia Union. To capture them, the joint force launched an operation in the early hours of Tuesday. Several hundred members from the Army, Coast Guard, Police, RAB, and Naval Police participated in the operation.
Police reported that during the raid at the home of Mosharraf, son of Nurul Islam from North Jamalpur village, the following items were recovered: 2 empty magazines, 51 live bullets of various types, 2 pistol holsters, 1 axe, 1 spear, 1 ammunition box, 1 slingshot, and 1 trawler propeller. However, Mosharraf managed to flee just before the law enforcement forces arrived.
Meanwhile, when the raid was carried out at the house of notorious river pirates Nayan and Pias, none of them were found at home. A search of their residence resulted in the recovery of: 1 large machete, 11 knives, 2 binoculars, army-uniform-like clothing, and cash amounting to 59,560 BDT.
Along with members of the 9th Infantry Division of the Army, Munshiganj Additional Deputy Commissioner Md. Rezaul Karim and Gazaria Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Mamun Sharif were present as executive magistrates. Also present were Officer-in-Charge of Gazaria Police Station Md. Anwar Alam Azad and In-Charge of Gazaria Naval Police Outpost Sharjit Kumar Ghosh.
Regarding the matter, OC Md. Anwar Alam Azad of Gazaria Police Station said: "Although some terrorists fled upon sensing the presence of law enforcement, we managed to arrest three individuals.
