
CU confers honorary D.Litt Degree on Dr Yunus

The University of Chittagong (CU) conferred honorary Doctorate of Literature (D.Litt) degree upon Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the interim government.
The degree was awarded during CU’s fifth convocation, held at 2. pm on Wednesday,
The university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yeahia Akhter, presented the certificate and crest to Dr. Yunus. As the convocation speaker, Professor Dr Yunus also addressed the ceremony.
Dr. Muhammad Yunus once served as a professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Chittagong. It was from this very university that he launched the pioneering Grameen Bank project, which would later earn him the Nobel Peace Prize.
This convocation, held nearly nine years after the last one, offered 22,560 graduates formally receiving their degrees. In addition, 22 researchers were awarded PhDs and 17 received MPhil degrees. Graduates at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels received their certificates, signed personally by the Vice Chancellor.
Among the distinguished attendees were Education Adviser Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof Dr. S.M.A. Faiz, and CU’s Pro-Vice Chancellors — Prof Dr. Mohammad Shamim Uddin Khan (Academic) and Prof Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin (Administration). Deans and faculty members from various departments were also present. The last convocation at the University of Chittagong was held in 2016.
