JnU's Housing Crisis: UGC promises temporary accommodation

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has taken the initiative to set up temporary accommodation on the seven acres of land purchased by Jagannath University (JnU) in Keraniganj. 
 
UGC Chairman Professor Dr. S.M.A. Faiz shared this information on Tuesday  during a meeting with representatives of the university’s teachers and students.
 
UGC Chairman Dr. Faiz said, "Compared to other universities in Bangladesh, it is evident that Jagannath University has been systematically deprived. We are trying to do something for the students of JnU. The crisis at this university is profound, and resolving it will take some time. Initially, we are taking the initiative to build two temporary accommodations. Additionally, we will discuss the budget and accommodation allowances with the Ministry of Education and the Chief Adviser with the utmost importance. We will also make efforts to organize a meeting involving all relevant ministries as soon as possible."
 
Jagannath University(JnU)  Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Rezaul Karim said, "The UGC Chairman has promised to allocate a project for two temporary accommodations initially. He has also proposed providing a scholarship for our female students. Moreover, the UGC Chairman mentioned that he would arrange a meeting with the Chief Adviser involving all related ministries to discuss budget and accommodation allowances. If the meeting takes place successfully, I am hopeful that it will pave the way for solving our problems."
 
The meeting was attended by UGC Member Dr. Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan,  JnU Treasurer Prof  Dr. Sabina Sharmin, General Secretary of the Teachers' Association Prof  Dr. Rais Uddin, Director of Finance Prof Dr. Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, Student Welfare Adviser Professor Dr. Rifat Hasan, Proctor Prof  Dr. Tazammol Hoque, Joint General Secretary of the Teachers' Association Prof  Dr. Bilal Hossain, and Associate Professor of the English Department Dr. Nasir Ahmed.
 
Among the leaders of various social and cultural organizations were JnU Chhatra Dal Branch Member Secretary Shamsul Arefin, Secretary of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir Riazul Islam, President of Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad (BSRC) A.K.M. Rakib Hasan, Convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Masud Rana, Spokesperson Naushin Nawer Joya, and Secretary of Islami Chhatra Andolon Ashikul Islam Akash.
