NBR warns against fake and misleading AI-generated mobile screenshots

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has issued a stern warning against attempts to spread misinformation using fake mobile screenshots generated by artificial intelligence (AI) software.
The screenshots, which falsely implicate the NBR chairman, director general of the Central Intelligence Cell (CIC), commissioner of the Tax Intelligence Unit, and other senior officials, are being circulated to mislead and confuse NBR employees, the agency said in a statement.
According to NBR, the fabricated screenshots were created using a foreign-registered phone number along with AI tools, and then disseminated via social media platforms.
“This act of spreading false and misleading information is a serious criminal offense under the laws of Bangladesh. Those responsible will face legal action,” NBR warned.
The Board urged its officials and employees not to fall for these rumours or be misled by the false content being circulated.
The NBR is currently investigating the incident and has assured that appropriate legal measures will be taken against those involved in this attempt to destabilize the institution through digital disinformation.
