Payra Sea Port will play vital role in country's economy: Brig Gen Sakhawat Hossain

Adviser to Ministry of Shipping and Ministry of Textiles and Jute, Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. M Sakhawat Hossain said, Payra is an important port for the country's economy.

To further accelerate its activities, 100% utilization of the allocated money in port development projects will be ensured. Capital dredging of the port has already been completed. The port will be kept operational by maintaining the navigability of the channel through maintenance.' -he said these things during an exchange of views with journalists after inspecting the development projects of Payra Sea Port on Monday morning.

He also said, 'In order to make the port profitable, the four-lane road and railway line work should be started quickly to improve its connectivity. Besides, some part of the imported goods of the country will be cleared at this port to increase the income. It will also reduce the pressure on other ports.'

Ministry of Shipping Secretary (Acting) Sanjay Kumar Banik, Port Chairman Rear Admiral Abdullah Al Mamun Chowdhury, Port Authority Member Parimal Chandra Bose (Joint Secretary), Member Captain Mohammad Zahid Hossain, Captain SM Sharifur Rahman (Project Director, PABK) and other concerned persons were present at that time.

Earlier on Sunday afternoon, he discussed with the port authorities about the progress of the ongoing project implementation and future plans of Payra port. Since its inception, 2802 domestic and foreign ships have arrived at Payra port. The total income is 15 hundred 3 crore 65 lakh 82 thousand 3 hundred 18 taka.
