Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two Rohingya men and recovered 200,000 Burmese Yaba tablets in two separate anti-narcotics operations along the Ghumdhum and Baishparish border areas in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban on Saturday land Sunday.

The arrestees are Md Islam, 25, son of Md Hossain, and Md Mojibullah, 23, son of Md Jalil. Both are residents of FDMN Camp-08 (Block B/81 and B/74, respectively).

According to a press release issued by the Cox's Bazar Battalion (34 BGB), a patrol team from the Ghumdhum BOP conducted a special raid based on a tip-off at around 9:00 PM yesterday (October 10) at a place locally known as "Jamaler Gher," roughly 200 yards inside the Bangladesh territory from border pillar-32. During the raid, 10,000 Yaba tablets were seized alongside the two Rohingya suspects.

In a separate operation early this morning (October 11) at around 4:00 AM, a special patrol team from the Baishparish BOP raided the "Madhyapara" area, about 100 yards inside Bangladesh from border pillar-35. Authorities recovered an additional 190,000 abandoned Yaba tablets during this drive, though no suspects were detained on the spot.

Lt Col SM Khairul Alam, PBGM, PSC, commanding officer of the Cox's Bazar Battalion (34 BGB), confirmed the details of the operations.

He said, BGB is not only committed to guarding the border but also to preventing drugs and smuggling," he said. "Under the Ramu Sector of Cox's Bazar Region, our battalion regularly conducts operations to ensure border security and combat illegal activities.

Legal proceedings regarding the total seized narcotics are also ongoing, the BGB added.
