Citizen dialogue on national charter, citizen expectations held in Jashore

A citizen dialogue on National Charter and Citizen Expectations was held in Jasshore with the theme "Aware, organized and vocal public is the protector of democracy" on  Monday.
 
 Jayati Society organized the  dialogue for good governance at the conference center. 
 
Sujon District President Adv. Saleha Begum presided over the dialogue and Sujon Central Secretariat Coordinator Dilip Kumar moderated the dialogue. Sujon Kushtia District President Abu Hena Golam Rasul, Chuadanga President Principal Siddiqur Rahman, Jhenaidah District General Secretary Sharif Mahmud, Meherpur General Secretary Zakir Hossain, Magura District General Secretary Sarafat Hossain and many others spoke at the event. 
 
Sujon Central Coordinator Dilip Sarkar said that the main objective of the dialogue is to create a 'national charter' based on the opinions and expectations of the people, which will be helpful in future policymaking and political parties will be obliged to adhere to this charter.
The dialogue mainly discusses the current situation of the country, the role of an aware and vocal population as a protector of democracy, and what the future state structure should be like. 
 
Sujan and the National Consensus Commission are saying that this charter will protect all the rights of citizens. Through this, it will be possible to build a democratic society and state and establish human dignity.
The speakers in the dialogue emphasized issues such as fair and impartial elections, amending the constitution, police reform, independence of local government and the judiciary, determining the minimum educational qualifications of members of parliament, and ensuring freedom of speech and fundamental rights of the people.
 
The opinion of the people is very important, because the constitution is a reflection of the opinions of the people and a protector of the rights of the people. In that case, Sujan's organization of the dialogue across the country deserves praise.
 
Experts participating in the dialogue said that to make democracy sustainable, citizens must We need to be more active, aware and organized. Ensuring people's participation in the state structure is the key to good governance. This national charter will be helpful in building an inclusive, non-discriminatory Bangladesh in the future.
 
Khorshed Alam, Regional Coordinator of Citizens for Good Governance, said that Sujon plans to organize a total of 15 citizen dialogues across the country to finalize a national charter, which will end on July 23. Citizens representing various sections of society including teachers, journalists, lawyers, representatives of the youth community and farmers, businessmen, development workers, human rights activists, environmental activists and the disabled participated in the civil dialogue.
