Coast Guard detained seven smugglers with food items and clothing during drug trafficking in exchange for goods from Myanmar
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-Ul-Haq provided this information in a press release on Friday night.
The press release stated that based on confidential information, on Friday, at 12:00 PM, a joint operation was conducted by the Coast Guard Outpost Patenga and the police in the Karnaphuli Channel near the Coal Depot Police Post under Patenga Thana in Chattogram. During the operation, a suspicious cargo boat in the said area was searched, and approximately 51,67,500 Taka worth of goods intended for smuggling into Myanmar by evading customs duties were seized, including 620 sacks of lentils, 10 sacks of ginger, 480 pieces of lungis, 400 pieces of sarees, and the cargo boat used for smuggling, along with 7 smugglers who were detained.
The seized goods, the boat used for smuggling, and the detained smugglers are undergoing further legal proceedings.
Such operations will continue in the future by the Coast Guard to prevent smuggling, the press release added.
