The 8th International Conference titled 'Sufi Culture: Middle East, West Africa and Bangladesh', jointly organized by the Department of Persian Language and Literature, Dhaka University and Darul Irfan Research Institute, was held at RC Majumder Arts Auditorium on Monday.

Dhaka University Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury was present as the chief guest in the inaugural session.
The inaugural session was presided over by the Chairman of the Department of Persian Language and Literature, Dr. Md. Mumit Al Rashid. Vice Chancellor Emeritus Professor Dr. Anisuzzaman of Global University Bangladesh and Director General of Bangladesh Madrasa Education, Md. Shahadat Hossain spoke as special guests. Managing Trustee of Darul Irfan Research Institute, Shahzada Syed Irfanul Haque delivered the welcome address and the convener of the conference organizing committee, Professor Dr. Mohammad Muhsin Uddin Mia, delivered the welcome address. Deputy Attorney General of the Supreme Court of Bahrain, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Sheikh Rashid Al-Muraikhi, delivered an article titled `Sufism in the Arab Gulf States: A Case Study of the Khalidi Naqshbandi Order` and Professor Dr. Jamal Farooq Jibril Mahmud presented an article titled `The Jurisprudential Vision of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif on the Issue of Sama` . Professor Dr. Mohammad Ahsanul Hadi moderated the program.
Treasurer Prof Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, it is important to spread the message of human love of Sufi saints to establish peace in the current critical world. Stressing the need to further strengthen the practice and research of Sufi culture to prevent the degradation of social values, he said, , the philosophy of equality and human love of Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi, Mohammad Hafiz Shirazi and national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam can play a helpful role.
A panel discussion was held. Prof Dr. Shah Kawsar Mustafa Abululai chaired the discussion, in which Prof Dr. KM Saiful Islam Khan and Dr. Abdullah Al Mahmud participated. Assistant Prof Dr. Fairuz Asad of Damascus University, Syria, Assistant Prof Mehedi Hasan of the Department of Persian Language and Literature, Dhaka University, Prof Dr. Mohammad Sheikh Saadi of Chittagong University and Prof Dr. Yasmin Ara Sathi of the Islamic University presented research papers on the theological, social and literary impact of Sufism in the regional and global context.
The cover of the Bengali translation of Fariduddin Attar Nishapuri's book 'Musibatanama' was unveiled at the conference.
