GAU VC at Plantation Programme :  We are committed to implement govt’s initiative to build self-reliant Bangladesh

As part of the five-year programme announced by the Hon’ble Prime Minister to plant 250 million trees, the Tree Plantation Programme-2026 was held at Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU).
 
The programme was held simultaneously at the university’s six residential halls at around 11:30 am on Sunday led by  university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr. Mostafizur Rahman, and with the overall management of the respective residential halls, the programme began at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Hall.
 
Tree plantation activities were subsequently carried out at the New Female Hall, Ila Mitra Hall, Begum Rokeya Hall, Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master Hall, and New Male Hall. Various improved varieties of fruit-bearing tree saplings were planted on the premises of each residential hall.
 
Earlier, on July 11, 2026, Education Minister Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Haque Milan inaugurated the university’s tree plantation programme as the chief guest during the orientation programme for newly admitted students of the Summer Term. As a continuation of the greening initiative launched through his inauguration, the tree plantation programme was organized at the residential halls to make the campus more attractive and environmentally friendly.
 
Among those present during the tree plantation programme were Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Md. Zahidur Rahman; Treasurer Prof Dr. Md. Shafiul Islam Afrad; Convener of the Tree Plantation and Environment Day Committee Prof Dr. Nasrin Akter Ivy; Member-Secretary Prof Dr. Md. Abiar Rahman; deans and directors of various faculties and departments; Proctor Prof Dr. Mohammad Saiful Alam; Registrar Md. Abdullah Mridha; provosts of the respective residential halls; teachers, students, officers and employees of the university.
 
Vice-Chancellor Prof  Dr. GKM Mostafizur Rahman said, “Tree plantation is not merely a programme for protecting the environment; rather, it is a commitment to building a livable Bangladesh for future generations. GAU  is firmly committed to implementing the government’s initiative to build a self-reliant Bangladesh by integrating agriculture.
