
Dengue: More than 12,000 hospitalised this year Barishal reports the highest number of cases in the country
Bangladesh has reported 317 hospitalisations with dengue fever without any fatalities from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease across Bangladesh over the past 24 hours.
With the latest cases, the total number of dengue hospitalisations this year has climbed to 12,271.
According to a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) bulletin on Sunday, Barishal Division reported the highest number of new hospital admissions in the 24 hours leading up to Thursday, with 127 patients.
Another 48 patients have been admitted in the two city corporations of Dhaka, 52 across the division, seven in Mymensingh, 70 in Chattogram, and 13 in Khulna.
As many as 1,228 patients are currently undergoing treatment for dengue in hospitals across the country.
Of them, 349 were hospitalised in the capital, with 879 across the rest of the country.
In 2024, a total of 101,214 patients were hospitalised due to dengue nationwide, with 575 fatalities reported.
This marks the third-highest number of hospitalisations due to dengue in the country’s history, while the death toll ranks as the second-highest.
The DGHS has been keeping records of dengue hospitalisations and fatalities since 2000.
Since then, a record 321,179 dengue hospitalisations were logged in 2023. That year also saw the most deaths, with 1,705.
In 2022, a total of 101,354 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across Bangladesh, marking the second-highest annual count.
