
Dialogue in Monirampur on rights, discrimination of disabled women

A dialogue was held in Monirampur, Jashore on the rights, protection and elimination of discrimination of disabled women on Monday.
The dialogue was chaired by Monirampur Upazila Social Service Officer Md. Alamgir Hossain and moderated by Agrani Mahila Unnayan Sangstha Project Coordinator Md. Imran Chowdhury. District Disability Affairs Officer Muna Afrin spoke as the chief guest. Among others, Upazila Women Affairs Officer Mousumi Akhter, Journalist Professor Babul Akhter, Agrani Mahila Unnayan Sangstha Project Officer Uttam Kumar Mahat, Upazila Coordinator Zahid Hossain and many others spoke.
The speakers in the dialogue said, "If the society's perspective is not changed, development and rights for disabled people will not be protected. Even if the law is not implemented, no benefits will be obtained." The speakers also said, 1"People with disabilities are facing discrimination at every level of society, starting from the home. Employment opportunities have been narrowed due to the abolition of disability quotas." With the principle of leaving no one behind, everyone must work on how to strengthen the existing institutional arrangements for the protection of people with disabilities, especially women with disabilities." Women with disabilities face many challenges due to social prejudice, economic constraints and social norms in addition to physical disabilities.
Above all, government, non-governmental organizations and all levels of society must work together to ensure the rights, protection and elimination of discrimination of women with disabilities.
