
Wife, brother-in-law of mastermind behind murder of Jubo Dal leader Shamim arrested in Satkhira

Law enforcement agencies have arrested the mastermind and accused of the murder of Jubo Dal leader SM Shamim Ahmed of Tala Upazila in Satkhira, his wife Fatema Akter Brishti (30) and brother-in-law Emon Hossain Badal (18). They were arrested in a joint operation by RAB-6 and Dumuria Police Station from Shamim's house in Atharomile area of Dumuria, Khulna on Monday afternoon.
During the operation, according to Barish's confession, the sharp knife used in the murder was recovered from a pond near the house. Khulna District Police ASP (Circle) Abir Shuvro and other senior police officials were present at the time.
Earlier, Shamim Ahmed, a resident of Uthali village in Tala upazila of Satkhira, was brutally murdered on the third floor of his house in Atharomail area of Dumuria upazila of Khulna on Friday (August 22) at around 11 pm. He was the son of Abdul Gaffar of that village and the joint convener of Islamkati Union Jubo Dal.
After the murder, two young suspects were detained for questioning, but were released to their families the next day due to lack of evidence. The victim's mother, retired teacher Rashida Begum, filed a murder case with Dumuria Police Station on Sunday (August 24).
Dumuria Police Station OC Md. Masud Rana said, "Shamim's wife and brother-in-law have been arrested on charges of involvement in his murder."
Khulna district ASP Abir Shuvro said that Brishti had planned the murder in advance due to a family dispute. As per the plan, his brother Badal hacked Shamim to death with a machete on the night of the incident. At that time, his wife Brishti was present at the scene. Later, the weapon was thrown into a nearby hole.
He also said that the weapon used in the murder has been recovered as per the confession given by Birshan. Further investigation is underway in the incident.
