View exchange with journalists : We will build drug-free Tungipara : OC
Tungipara (Gopalganj Correspondent)
Md. Zahidul Islam, the newly appointed Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tungipara Police Station in Gopalganj, has declared “zero tolerance” against drugs after taking charge.
He joined Tungipara on August 20, coming from the office of the Superintendent of Police in Manikganj. He said there while exchanging views with leaders of the Tungipara Journalists’ Unity Forum recently.
“The root cause of all crimes in society is drugs and smoking. It is through smoking that young people become addicted to drugs, which then leads to crimes such as theft, robbery, rape, and even murder.”
He further stated that research shows 95 percent of children have nicotine in their bodies, mainly because of family members or people around them smoking in public. Therefore, strict measures will be taken to ban smoking in public places.
To build a drug-free Tungipara, he announced a three-phase plan:
First six months – awareness building, preparing lists, and initial drives;
Within one year – extensive operations against drug dealers and users;
By one and a half years – establishing Tungipara as a model drug-free police station.
Seeking cooperation from the media, OC Zahidul Islam said, please cooperate with me. If I receive the support of the media, implementing this initiative will become much easier.
Leaders of the Tungipara Press Club and Journalists’ Unity Forum congratulated the new OC and assured him of their full cooperation. Local residents welcomed his declaration and expressed hope that this time, the dream of a truly drug-free Tungipara might finally come true.
