Discussion, Photo Exhibition at BU in remembrance of July Uprising

Bangladesh University (BU)  organized a discussion session and photo exhibition on Thursday to solemnly commemorate the historic July Mass Uprising. at the university’s auditorium.


he event paid tribute to the martyrs and highlighted the pivotal role of students in the movement.

Freelance photographer and CEO of Bakol Otyabosshok, Tani Jesmin, was present as the chief guest. In her speech, she said, “The leadership and sacrifice demonstrated by students during the July Movement are rare in both national and global history. Private universities, including BU, played a significant role in the movement, which enriched our national heritage.”

Prof Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam, VC of Bangladesh University, said, “The July Uprising awakened our consciousness for independence and democracy. One of the martyrs was the brother of a BU student. His courage, patriotism, and ultimate sacrifice will remain etched in the nation's memory.”

Brig. Gen. (Retd.) Md. Mahbubul Haque, Registrar of the university, stated, “This event has been organized to inspire the younger generation through the legacy of our martyrs and to help them grow as responsible citizens by knowing our history.”

In a deeply emotional moment, Sabrina Afroze Sebonti, sister of martyr Mahmudur Rahman Saikat, shared her memories. “My brother was killed during the Dhaka protests. Only a father knows the unbearable weight of carrying his son’s body. To truly honor the blood of our martyrs, we must build a peaceful and just Bangladesh, free from discrimination.”

Several students including Imam Hasan Jewel, Asaduzzaman Asad, Shahin Ahmed, Sazedur Rahman Soumik, Imam Mehedi Hasan, and Abdullah Al Noman shared their reflections on the significance of the July Uprising.

The program began with the exhibition of two photo documentaries on the July Movement. Attended by faculty members, deans, officials, and a large number of students, the event was marked by a solemn and emotional atmosphere. The event was coordinated overall by the Student Welfare Adviser, Rubaiyat Saimum Chowdhury.
