Extortion, shop vandalism against Melandaha Municipal BNP President Manowar Hossain alleged

A youth named Yasin Islam (28), son of Saheb Ali from Nayanagar village, filed a complaint at Melandaha Police Station on the night of July 5 against Advocate Manowar Hossain Howlader, President of Melandaha Municipal BNP, accusing him of extortion, shop vandalism, and looting.
According to the complaint, on the evening of July 5, a group of 50-60 people, led by Manowar Hossain Howlader, attacked a tea shop in Nayanagar Bazar, Shyampur, demanding extortion money. The group allegedly vandalized the shop and looted over 30,000 taka.
When asked about the real reason behind the attack, the complainant, Yasin Islam, stated that his father, Saheb Ali, owned a tea shop at the disputed location. During the previous government’s tenure, his father was evicted from the shop. About 15 days ago, Yasin returned from Dhaka and took possession of the shop. This led to objections from Manowar Howlader’s associates, who eventually vandalized the shop.
In response, the accused, Manowar Hossain Howlader, said, “Why would I vandalize someone else’s shop? In reality, Yasin, son of Saheb Ali, closed a fish market and set up a shop there. Many people told him to relocate the shop. That’s all I know. Certain groups are exploiting this issue to take political revenge.”
Local traders stated that the tea shop, located near a drain adjacent to the fish market, is not officially allocated to anyone.
OC Shafiqul Islam said, the investigation into the complaint is ongoing. While the shop was vandalized, the allegation of extortion may not be accurate. There could be other underlying motives or enmity between the parties. Further action will be taken once the investigation report is received.”
