Faridpur Railway Station Master faces allegations of duty negligence, attendance forgery

Mahbub Piyal, Faridpur

Allegations of irregularities in duty, attendance forgery, and hosting unauthorized gatherings in the station master's office have surfaced against Prohlad Biswas, Station Master of Faridpur Railway Station under the Pakshi Division of Bangladesh Railway.

Local residents and conscious citizens have called for a departmental investigation into the matter to preserve the image and security of the railway.

According to inquiries into the allegations, Anis Matubbar, a gatekeeper at the station, spent approximately 84 days at a rehabilitation center in the Alipur area of Faridpur city undergoing treatment for drug addiction. Complaints indicate that despite his absence from duty during this entire period, he was marked present on the station's daily attendance register as well as on the salary master roll. Local residents raised concerns over how an employee undergoing rehabilitation could draw salary through fake attendance and urged authorities to investigate potential embezzlement of government funds.

In addition, station master Prohlad Biswas faces allegations of allowing unauthorized outsiders into his official room to play cards. Local sources claimed that photographs and information obtained from the site confirm the regular presence of outsiders inside the station master's office, raising security concerns for the government installation.

When contacted for comments, Prohlad Biswas was absent from the station. Reached via telephone, he stated that he was currently on leave. Queried about gatekeeper Anis Matubbar's attendance during his stay at the rehabilitation center, Biswas initially deferred the matter for a face-to-face meeting after his leave, before adding that the gatekeeper occasionally signed the register in person. However, he offered no clear explanation as to how regular daily attendance was logged.

When approached for statements regarding the issue, Divisional Transportation Officer of Pakshi Railway Md. Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan referred queries to Takdir, another station master at Faridpur Railway Station. However, Takdir declined to provide details to the reporter without prior authorization from higher officials. Local residents have demanded a prompt departmental probe and punitive action against those involved if the allegations are proven true.
