Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday inaugurated rooftop solar power systems at various government institutions in Fulgazi, Chhagalnaiya and Parshuram upazilas of the district, enabling electricity generated by the systems to be supplied to the national grid.
The Prime Minister inaugurated the systems at a programme held at Fulgazi Dak Bungalow at around 6:30pm.
Solar systems with a combined capacity of 960.8 kilowatts have been installed on government buildings in the three upazilas, including 415.6 kilowatts in Chhagalnaiya, 295.8 kilowatts in Parshuram and 249.4 kilowatts in Fulgazi.
The rooftop solar systems were installed using the roofs of government buildings, with Feni Palli Bidyut Samity and the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board implementing the project.
The initiative will contribute to increasing the use of renewable energy in government institutions while enabling electricity generated by the rooftop systems to be supplied to the national grid.
The project is part of the government's efforts to promote renewable energy and reduce dependence on conventional sources of electricity.
