International Day of Older Persons observed in Pirojpur

International Day of Older Persons 2026 was observed in Pirojpur on Thursday with due solemnity and enthusiasm under the auspices of the district administration and the Department of Social Services.
To mark the day, a rally was brought out from the Circuit House premises at 11:00 AM, terminating at the Deputy Commissioner's office complex. Subsequently, a discussion meeting was held at the Shahid Saif Mijan Memorial Auditorium in the DC office premises.
Pirojpur Deputy Commissioner Abu Sayeed attended the event as the chief guest, with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mahmudur Rahman Mamun and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Ishrat Jahan present as special guests.
Speaking as the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner Abu Sayeed emphasized filial duty, stating that children must reflect on whether they are appropriately fulfilling their responsibilities toward their parents. He noted that proper care and devotion from family members would alleviate hardship for elderly parents in their later years.
Journalist Zubaer Al Mamun, Vice President of local voluntary organization Positive Pirojpur, highlighted that children should nurture their aging parents with the same care and affection they received during childhood. Other representatives from participating organizations reiterated the importance of according respect, compassion, and continuous attention to senior citizens.
The discussion meeting was presided over by Ibrahim Khalil, Deputy Director of the District Social Services Office, and moderated by Assistant Director Zakir Hossain Howlader. Representatives from several local voluntary and social welfare organizations, including Positive Pirojpur, Probin Hitoishi Sangha, Eminent Boys, and Surjodoy Pathagar, attended the program.
