Free school dress distribution for pry  students from next month: Milon

The government will start distributing free school dresses among primary school students from next month (July), Education and Primary & Mass Education Minister Dr. A. N. M. Ehsanul Huq Milan said on Monday.

He added that the government is also working to launch "Mid-day Meals" across the country and set up multimedia classrooms to modernize classroom teaching.

The minister was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the "National Primary Education Medal Competition 2026" held at the Government College of Physical Education ground in the capital’s Mohammadpur.

Emphasizing the physical and mental growth of students, Dr. Ehsanul Huq Milan stressed the importance of extra-curricular activities alongside regular academic studies.

Regarding academic reforms, the minister announced that steps are being taken to eliminate session jams, enabling students to enroll in colleges and universities immediately after their examination results are published. Furthermore, revised and corrected new textbooks will be delivered to schools this December, he added.

Following the competition events, the minister distributed prizes among the winners. The ceremony was attended by Directorate of Primary Education Director General Shahina Ferdousi, Additional Director General Md. Abdur Rahim, Additional Director General Md. Atiqur Rahman, other senior officials, participating students, and guardians.

Organized by the Directorate of Primary Education under the initiative of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, the national competition features various events including sports, cultural performances, subject-based quizzes, cubbing, and debates.

About  2.18 crore students participated in different stages of the competition from the school level up to the national level, with some students competing in multiple categories. A total of 400 students who qualified for the national level are participating in the final stage, which is expected to play a positive role in making children skilled and humane individuals.
