BNP Joint Secretary General Habib-Un-Nabi Khan Sohail has alleged that Sheikh Hasina committed killings solely to hold on to power. “What should I say ? She turned all of Bangladesh into a stage of executioners. So many words, but all she wanted was power. Many tyrants in history are known, but no tyrant has ever openly said, ‘I only want power.’ She said it herself—‘I just want power.’ Only someone who is mentally unwell would say such a thing,” he said.

He made these remarks on Thursday  at around 2 PM while speaking as the chief guest at an event organized by the Munshiganj district branch of Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB). The event was held at the District Shilpakala Academy in Munshiganj as part of BNP’s central program marking the July-August Uprising, Martyrdom and Victory Anniversary, where voluntary blood donation and blood grouping were conducted.

The BNP leader also said, “She (Sheikh Hasina) even had her own husband killed for power. She sought help from witches for power. Like a ‘lady magnet’ for power, there is no unethical deed she hasn’t done. She handed over the sovereignty of Bangladesh to imperialist powers through one treaty after another.”

The Joint Secretary General further stated, “People don’t want to vote for collaborators (Rajakars). BNP has never been power-hungry. During the 1/11 (January 11, 2007) caretaker regime of Fakhruddin-Moeenuddin, BNP did not seek to seize power. Our leader endured suffering. If the people vote for us, we’ll go to power. If not, we won’t. Don’t pay attention to propaganda. No one should tarnish the image of the party.”

The event was presided over by Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed, Member Secretary of Munshiganj District BNP, and inaugurated by Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Assistant Secretary for Health Affairs of BNP.
