
Highway Police arrests drug dealer with 200 bottles of Phensedyl

A pickup truck carrying 200 bottles of Phensedyl was seized and a drug smuggler was arrested in a special anti-drug operation by Highway Police Rangpur Region.
On the instructions of Highway Police Rangpur Region Superintendent of Police Mohammad Tariqul Islam, a special team of Hatibandha Highway Police Station, acting on a secret tip-off, arrested 200 bottles of Phensedyl and a pickup truck used to transport Phensedyl from the north bank of Teesta Barrage at 3 am on August 10. The arrested person is Al Amin Babu (29), a pickup driver from Hariakanda area of Kuliachar Police Station in Kishoreganj district.
Based on a secret information, a special team of Hatibandha Highway Police Station led by SI Farid and Sergeant Palash was deployed in the Teesta Barrage area from the evening and at around 3 pm, while setting up a special check post in front of the exit of the north gate of Teesta Barrage, a patrol police team stationed from a blue pickup registration (Dhaka Metro No. 15-5505) searched the pickup and recovered 200 bottles of the drug Phencidyl in a specially protected polythene inside the roof of the rear body of the pickup. At that time, the pickup used for drug transportation was seized and the driver was arrested.
A regular drug case was registered in this regard and an investigation is underway to find out whether anyone else, including the owner of the vehicle, was involved in drug transportation with the arrested accused.
Rangpur Highway Police Superintendent of Police Mohammad Tariqul Islam confirmed the incident and said that the Highway Police will further strengthen anti-drug operations in border police stations and set up checkpoints at night as needed.
