
Human chain, protest march by Hindu Maha Jote in N'ganj

A human chain and protest march were held in Narayanganj district demanding reserved seats for minorities in the National Parliament, implementation of a separate electoral system, protesting the demolition of the Durga Temple in Khilkhet, Dhaka, the arrest and torture of a father and son in Lalmonirhat on false charges, and the rape of a Hindu housewife in Muradnagar, Comilla. The protest was organized by the Bangladesh National Hindu Maha Jote in front of Narayanganj Press Club on Friday morning.
The program was presided over by Partha Sarathi Roy, Vice-President of Bangladesh National Hindu Students’ Maha Jote, Narayanganj District. Others present included Assistant Publicity Secretary Khokon Roy, District Publicity Secretary Shanto Chakraborty, Ram Modok, Rupganj Upazila President of Hindu Students’ Maha Jote Binoy Adhikari, Parash Hazra, Shyamal Debnath, Pran Krishna Bhowmik, Ratan Das, Sujon Chandra Das, Barin Sarkar, Subhash Dey, and members Manoranjan Das, Sambhu Nath Dey, and Gouranga Chandra Saha, among others.
Speakers at the event said, “We fought for the independence of this country together. During the war, no one asked who was Muslim, Hindu, Christian, or Buddhist. Now after independence, why are we being looked down upon? Why do we have to suffer persecution? We are citizens of this country; we were born here. Where else should we go?”
