In a joint operation to evict illegal occupants from Sectors 24 and 25 of the Purbachal New Town Project, 155 illegally constructed houses belonging to 44 families were demolished.
The operation was conducted with the assistance of the Gazipur District and Kaliaganj Upazila administration, involving over a hundred personnel from the BGB, RAB, police, RAJUK, and the Forest Department.
The operation, which began on Monday morning, resulted in the demolition of 155 illegally built houses belonging to 44 families.
The operation was carried out under the directives of the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, in accordance with Section 22(1) of the Wildlife Conservation Act of 2012.
Forest Department officials stated that this forest area, rich in natural shal trees, kapok trees, and various flora and fauna, is crucial for environmental and biodiversity conservation. Therefore, this operation was conducted as part of efforts to protect reserved forest land and evict illegal occupants.
The demolished structures included tin-shed, semi-pucca, and pucca houses. The administration stated that this is a significant step toward maintaining the project's environmental balance, conserving forest land, and reclaiming land.
Kaliaganj UNO Tanima Afrad, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nuri Tasmin Urmi, BGB Subedar Md. Abul Kalam Azad, RAB-1 Warrant Officer Md. Wadud, Police Inspector Mehedi Hasan, Mehedi Hasan from the Electricity Department, and RAJUK official Wahiduzzaman Shahin were present.
The administration emphasized that these strict measures were taken to protect the balance of nature and free government land from illegal occupation.
