Staff Correspondent

Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury  was admitted to a hospital in Sylhet on Friday after suddenly falling ill.

Following his sudden illness, his pre-scheduled official tour to Companiganj, Jaintiapur, and Gowainghat upazilas was canceled.

The minister felt sudden chest pain and dizziness after arriving in Companiganj on Friday morning. He was immediately rushed to Mount Adora Hospital in Akhalia, Sylhet, where he was admitted under the supervision of cardiologist Dr. Shishir Basak and neuromedicine specialist Dr. Nazrul Islam, hospital and local sources said.

While reports for several tests have been received, others remain pending. Primary evaluations indicate that his condition is not alarming, though specialist doctors will provide a detailed briefing once all medical reports are available, Sylhet City Corporation Health Officer Dr. Jahidur Rahman said.

Upon receiving news of his hospitalization, Commerce Minister Khondokar Abdul Muktadir visited him at Mount Adora Hospital this afternoon to inquire about his health.
