Dhaka Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Farida Khanom said,  objective journalism plays a vital role in driving positive social and national transformation across the country.

She made this  remarks while speaking at the inaugural session of "MRU Media Day 2026," organized by the Multimedia Reporters Unit (MRU) at the Shafiqul Kabir Auditorium of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the capital on Saturday morning.

Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanom noted that journalism extends beyond mere news reporting, as it serves to highlight irregularities, corruption, and systemic inconsistencies, thereby raising public awareness and establishing citizens' rights. She emphasized that well-researched investigative reports draw the attention of relevant authorities, facilitating administrative solutions to public grievances.

Stressing the need for accuracy in the digital age, she stated that journalists must thoroughly gather facts and verify information prior to publication. She urged media professionals to prioritize public interest while upholding strict neutrality, integrity, and professional ethics, adding that responsible reporting is essential to maintaining public trust in news outlets.

Presiding over the event, MRU President Shahriar Naim observed that technological advancements have transformed modern reporting, enabling journalists to collect news, edit videos, and publish content using mobile devices. He highlighted that multimedia journalists often fulfill these duties single-handedly. He noted that MRU, comprising reporters from leading television channels, print newspapers, and online portals, remains committed to the professional development and welfare of multimedia journalists, while appealing to the district administration for cooperation in securing a permanent organizational office.

The programme  was also attended by MRU Advisor and DRU General Secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel, MRU General Secretary Mesbah Uddin, Advisor Safiur Rahman Shafiq, alongside executive members and journalists. Founded in December 2023, the Multimedia Reporters Unit continues to organize professional development, welfare, and skill-building initiatives for multimedia journalists.
