Two five-year-old children named Aqik and Tanvir died after drowning in a pond while playing on Thursday in Mirzakanda village of Shalla Upazila in Sunamganj.
Deceased child Aqik was the son of Siraj Mia of Simerkanda village in the same upazila, while the other deceased child was the son of Kabir Hossain of Mirzakanda village in the same upazila.
Shalla Police Station OC Md. Shafiqul Islam confirmed the deaths of the two children.
On Thursday evening, family sources of the deceased children said Aqik from Shalla’s Simerkanda village had recently come with other family members to visit his maternal uncle Lil Mia’s house in the nearby Mirzakanda village.
The two children were playing together near the pond by the house of one Mohon Mia in Mirzakanda village on Thursday morning.
Out of everyone’s sight, the two children fell into the pond water.
Later, villagers and family members recovered the bodies of the two children.
