 At least three people were killed and seven others injured in a head-on collision between a freight truck and a passenger autorickshaw in the Burimari area under Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat.

The fatal road accident occurred on the Burimari–Lalmonirhat highway in the Ghunti area of Burimari Union on Monday morning.

According to police and local sources, a passenger-carrying battery-run autorickshaw was heading toward Patgram town from Burimari land port. Upon reaching the Ghunti area on Monday morning, September 28, 2026, a port-bound freight truck coming from the opposite direction lost control due to a mechanical glitch. The truck collided head-on with the autorickshaw before plowing into a roadside shop and running over the passenger vehicle.

The severe impact resulted in immediate casualties at the scene. Upon receiving information, personnel from the Patgram Fire Service and Civil Defence alongside local residents launched a joint rescue operation, extricating the injured and transferring them to the Patgram Upazila Health Complex. Medical sources confirmed that three persons died from the accident, including one individual named Mostakin who succumbed to injuries while undergoing emergency treatment at the hospital.

Hospital authorities reported that five of the injured were transferred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment due to their critical condition, while two others remain under medical care at the Patgram Upazila Health Complex. Although full identity details of the victims were not immediately verified, local residents indicated they are inhabitants of Patgram upazila.
