Anti-drug rally involving mothers held in Pirojpur

Aiming to boost anti-narcotics awareness and accelerate the ongoing social movement against substance abuse, an anti-drug mothers' rally was held at the Pirojpur Shishu Academy auditorium on Thursday morning.

The event brought together students from various educational institutions across Pirojpur town along with their mothers.

Organized by the "Social Initiative to Prevent Drugs" in collaboration with the Pirojpur district administration, the rally was presided over by Principal Hosne Ara Jasmine, a member of the organization. The session was moderated by Joint Convener and General Secretary of the Pirojpur Retired Armed Forces Association, Sergeant (Retd.) Md. Habibur Rahman, while Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ishrat Jahan addressed the gathering as the chief guest.

Prominent figures who spoke as special guests and discussants included Senior Journalist and Convener of the platform Md. Moniruzzaman Nasim Ali, Chief Coordinator Professor Md. Shah Alam, Department of Narcotics Control Official Zia Uddin, Lecturer Md. Lutfar Rahman, and Mahila Parishad District President Khaleda Akter Hena.

Other key speakers representing different professional spheres included SHUJAN District Vice Presidents Firoz Khan and Afzal Hossain Lablu, Udichi Shilpigosthi District President and Journalist Khalid Abu, The Pirojpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vice President Mehedi Hasan, Apex Club General Secretary Md. Mahatab Uddin Ripon, Positive Pirojpur General Secretary and Journalist Zubaer Al Mamun, National Journalists' Association District President Hasan Mamun, social worker Zahid Rahman, and Journalist Amit Biswas.

Speakers at the rally highlighted that drug addiction poses a catastrophic threat to society, particularly to the younger generation. They emphasized that a coordinated approach combining families, educational institutions, social organizations, public representatives, and the administration is essential to check the spread of narcotics. The speakers urged parents to maintain close supervision over their children's movements, friendships, and daily routines.

They also underscored the need to ensure active public participation to sustain the anti-drug social drive initiated by the district administration. The collective voice of the summit stressed building robust social resistance through heightened awareness to transform Pirojpur into a drug-free district.

Following the rally, the organization held its monthly executive meeting, where several action plans were formulated to expand anti-narcotics campaigns across the region, while seeking cooperation from citizens of all walks of life.
