On the historic occasion of 'July Martyrs' Day,' the officials of Dhaka District Administration paid deep respect to the heroic martyrs of the July-August mass uprising at the Rayerbazar July Martyrs' Mass Graveyard.

To mark the significance of the day and honor the memory of the martyrs, the district administration organized a wreath-laying ceremony along with special prayers on Wednesday morning.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister for Liberation War Affairs, the Secretary of the Ministry, Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Md. Moniruzzaman, and Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam, alongside senior government officials, administration staff, and civil society members.

Deep tribute was paid to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the July-August movement by placing floral wreaths at the graveyard.

Later, special prayers were offered seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of the martyrs. Prayers were also held for the peace, prosperity, and establishment of a just state for the country and its citizens.

During the event, speakers noted that 16 July 2024 remains an unforgettable day in the history of Bangladesh.

On this day, Shahid Abu Sayeed, a courageous student of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur, stood broad-chested against injustice and discrimination. His exemplary sacrifice subsequently became the ultimate inspiration for the mass uprising.

They added that his martyrdom did not just define a movement but initiated a new chapter in the struggle to establish justice, democracy, and human rights.

Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam stated that July Martyrs' Day holds profound significance in our national life.

"On this day, we do not merely remember the martyrs, but we draw renewed inspiration from their ideals and supreme sacrifice," she said.
