Chattogram to be made flood-free thru' canal excavation: Disaster Minister Dulu

Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Asadul Habib Dulu, MP, has announced a long-term plan to protect Chattogram from recurring flooding by dredging and re-excavating the city’s canal network.
"Chattogram is our commercial capital and primary port city. Blessed with hills, rivers, the sea, and flatlands, this city has suffered long enough due to waterlogging," the Minister said this during a relief distribution program in the city's Halishahar area on Wednesday morning.
"By re-excavating the canals and ensuring efficient water drainage, we will relieve the city dwellers from the misery of flooding."
The Minister further reiterated that the government is committed to implementing all necessary measures to rehabilitate those affected by the recent severe floods, ensuring their swift return to normalcy.
The relief distribution event was also addressed by Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Member of Parliament Sayeed Al Noman, and Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Jahidul Islam Miah, among others.
The announcement comes amidst ongoing government efforts to mitigate the infrastructural damage left by the recent monsoon floods across the Chattogram division.
