An awareness meeting was organized with police, UP members, and media representatives to ensure services are provided by the village court for women, men, the poor, marginalized, disabled, and backward communities.
The meeting was held on Thursday in the conference room of the Dohar Upazila Administration, chaired by Dohar UNO and Municipal Administrator Tania Tabassum.
During the meeting, representatives from all eight unions of the upazila, including UP members, participated and delivered speeches. Tania Tabassum, in her speech, stated that the village court is working to provide impartial services to rural people and to resolve cases in higher courts. She emphasized that due to the lack of provisions for investing in lawyers, the village court plays a crucial role in maintaining peace and harmony at the local level by resolving small-scale disputes quickly and amicably.
The village court officials provided insights into its operations. Dohar Thana OC (Investigation) Md. Nurunabi and Upazila Raipara Union’s reserved women UP member Nahida Islam shared their experiences. Among the beneficiaries, Badiul Alam (75) from Raipara Union also spoke about his experiences.
Upazila Fisheries Officer Shirin Akter, Social Services Officer Fakrul Ashraf, Senior Vice-President of Dohar Press Club Mahbubur Rahman Tipu, and Prothom Alo representative Azharul Haque, with the latter serving as the chief guest were present.
