Aminul, Kazipur (Sirajganj) 

 Over ten families residing in the Biara Charpara area under Ward No. 8 of Kazipur Municipality have been living in severe isolation for over four decades, relying on a precarious 30-foot bamboo bridge as their only point of access to the mainland.

Despite being located just 30 feet away from a paved road equipped with modern amenities, the residents remain separated by a 30-foot-wide canal. During the monsoon season, which lasts nearly six months, water levels in the canal rise above 10 feet, effectively turning the cluster of homesteads into an isolated island surrounded by water.

A on-spot inspection today revealed that schoolchildren, elderly residents, persons with disabilities, and livestock face constant hazards while attempting to cross the unstable bamboo structure or wading through deep water. Local residents reported that multiple children and elderly individuals have suffered injuries from falling off the slippery bridge into the canal.

Formed in 2000, Kazipur is a Class-B municipality encompassing nine wards with a total population of over 22,000. Residents of Charpara alleged that despite being regular voters and municipal citizens, they receive virtually no basic civic amenities compared to other wards. Local inhabitants, including river erosion victims who settled in the area four decades ago, noted that the absence of a proper bridge hinders home construction, limits emergency healthcare access, and affects social livelihoods.

Residents have repeatedly submitted written requests to municipal authorities seeking a bridge, with the latest application filed to the Municipal Administrator on July 26, 2026.

When contacted, Kazipur Municipal Engineer Rafiqul Islam stated that several bridge and culvert proposals have been submitted under the "Sustainable Development" project, expressing optimism that approvals may be granted by December. Statements from newly appointed Municipal Administrator and UNO  Shahnaz Parvin could not be immediately obtained.
