Historical National Revolution and Solidarity Day was observed through various programmes at Jackson Heights in New York, USA, on Saturday (November 7).
To mark the day, a discussion meeting and food distribution programme were jointly organised by New York State BNP, New York City North and South BNP, US Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal, JASAS, Sramik Dal, Muktijoddha Dal, and former leaders of US BNP.
The day’s proceedings began with a special prayer, followed by the formal inauguration of the event through the releasing of colourful balloons by the guests. The main discussion session took place at a local restaurant following the inauguration.
Mainstream politician and member of the BNP National Executive Committee, Gias Ahmed, attended the event as the chief guest.
BNP National Executive Committee Member Zillur Rahman Zillu, former BNP Treasurer Jasim Uddin Bhuiyan, and BNP leader Jahangir Alam, among leaders of associate bodies, addressed the discussion as special guests.
Speaking at the meeting, chief guest Gias Ahmed said, "On November 7, 1975, late President Ziaur Rahman was freed from captivity through the historic sepoy-people uprising and took charge of the country. He brought order back from chaos and re-established multi-party democracy in Bangladesh."
Other speakers highlighted that the united revolution of the sepoys and the public on November 7 safeguarded the nation's independence and sovereignty at a critical juncture in history. They added that Ziaur Rahman’s leadership laid the foundation for building a modern and development-oriented nation.
Moderated by US BNP leader Sarwar Khan Babu, the meeting drew a large number of leaders, activists of associate organisations, and Bangladeshi expatriates.
The event concluded with the distribution of food among underprivileged people.
