The body of a 42-year-old motorcycle driver, Rafiqul Islam, was recovered by police from behind the house of a local rival in Kanchanpur village under Kalia upazila of Narail on Tuesday morning. His legs were found bound with rope, indicating foul play.
According to police sources, the body was discovered around 9:30 a.m. behind the residence of Rikail Sheikh, a local resident. Rafiqul was the son of Azizur Mollah of the same village.
Local sources said Rikail Sheikh’s wife, Salma Khatun, found the body while dumping waste behind their kitchen around 8:00 a.m. and immediately informed the Kalia Police Station. Law enforcement officers arrived shortly after and sent the body to the Narail Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Family members confirmed that Rafiqul worked as a motorcycle driver. His sudden and tragic death has plunged the family into deep mourning, with emotional scenes unfolding throughout the village.
- OC) Md. Abdullah Al Mamun stated, “Preliminary investigations suggest that the murder may be the result of an ongoing rivalry. Rafiqul was a fugitive accused in a previous murder case. On April 11, a clash broke out in Kanchanpur over local dominance between the groups led by Milon Mollah and Aftab Mollah, during which Farid Mollah (57), a supporter of Aftab, was killed. Rafiqul was named as an accused in that incident.”
He further added, “Multiple police teams are currently working on the ground to uncover the motive and arrest those responsible. Additional law enforcement personnel have been deployed in the area to ensure public safety, and the situation is now under control.”
The murder has sparked tension throughout the locality, prompting local authorities to remain on high alert to prevent further unrest.
