Over a hundred saplings have been distributed in Jhalakathi as part of the 'Captain Planet' tree gifting event. The saplings were distributed and planted at the Collectorate School campus in Jhalakathi city at 10:30 am on Wednesday with the aim of protecting the environment and growing fruit trees.
Present at the event were Jhalakathi Deputy Commissioner and Collectorate School President Ashrafur Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) and School Principal (Additional Responsibilities) Shakila Rahman, Assistant Principal of the school Sujit Kanti Basu, Jhalakathi Press Club Deputy General Secretary Asam Mahmudur Rahman Parvez and many others.
The initiator of this program, prominent businessman and social worker Shamsul Haque Manu, said, "Planting trees is a continuous process, I will continue the tree planting program as long as I live. Once upon a time, there were plenty of trees in this village. Now there is a great shortage of fruit trees. Therefore, thinking about the environment and future generations, I distribute tree seedlings almost every year and this will continue."
Jhalakathi Deputy Commissioner Ashrafur Rahman said, "Trees play an important role not only in protecting the environment but also in protecting human life. The younger generation should develop the habit of planting trees."
