
Clash in Narail over assault on imam, 5 arrested with weapons

In Narail’s Kalia Upazila, a clash erupted between the Sardar and Sheikh clans following the assault on a mosque imam. During the confrontation, a member of the Sardar clan fired shots targeting an individual from the Sheikh clan on Friday afternoon.
The army and police arrived at Babupur village in Hamidpur Union after receiving reports of the clash and brought the situation under control. Five individuals were arrested, and weapons were recovered from the scene.
The arrested individuals are Nannu Rahman (55), Saimon Sardar (32), S M Arifuzzaman (30), Mojibur Rahman (70), and Sejan Sardar Dip (35), all from Kulsur village in Kalia Municipality.
According to police and local sources, on Wednesday, after Asr prayers, Rashid Sardar of the Sardar clan assaulted Mufti Ramzan Ali, the imam of Babupur Central Jame Mosque in Kalia Upazila. Following Friday’s Jumu’ah prayers, a heated exchange over the incident inside the mosque escalated into a clash between the Sardar and Sheikh clans. During the conflict, Mujibur Rahman Sardar from the Sardar clan fired two blank rounds inside the mosque, resulting in one person being injured.
Upon receiving the news, Kalia Thana police and the army arrived at the scene and recovered weapons used in the attack, including 13 rounds of ammunition, three machetes, one hockey stick, three cleavers, two axes, and one knife.
Kalia Thana OC Md. Abdullah Al Mamun stated that the army handed over the five accused along with the seized weapons to the police station. Legal proceedings against them are underway.
