
Coast Guard saves two-day old critically sick newborn from launch at Fatullah

Bangladesh Coast Guard has saved two-day-old critically ill newborn from passenger launch in Fatullah.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq confirmed the information on Friday noon.
The press release said, on Thursday night, a mother set out from Ilisha, Bhola to Dhaka aboard the passenger launch MV Mitali-07 with her two-day-old critically ill newborn, assisted with artificial oxygen, for advanced treatment. When the launch reached near Fatulla Launch Ghat at 4:00 AM on Friday, the oxygen cylinder became empty. As a result, the newborn’s physical condition deteriorated further, putting the baby’s life at risk. Immediately, a close relative called the emergency helpline 999 for assistance, and the Coast Guard was informed.
Based on the received information, a medical team from Coast Guard Station Pagla immediately proceeded to the launch with a high-speed boat carrying an oxygen cylinder. The medical team promptly administered oxygen to the newborn and accompanied the launch to Sadarghat.
Later, the newborn was transferred by ambulance to Dhanmondi Mother and Child Hospital for advanced treatment.
The Coast Guard will continue such activities in public service in the future as well.
