Computer lab inaugurated at DU's Urdu Depat : Bangladesh-Pakistan keen to strengthen academic cooperation

Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam. The courtesy call was held at the Vice-Chancellor's office on Tuesday.

During the meeting, both sides expressed interest in taking necessary initiatives to strengthen cooperation between Dhaka University and various higher education institutions of Pakistan in the fields of education, research, culture and human resource development. They emphasized on teacher-student exchange, joint research, semester exchange, joint degree programs and expansion of various academic activities.

Dean of the Faculty of Arts Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Sarkar, Chairman of the Urdu Department Associate Professor Md. Ghulam Maula, Professor of the Urdu Department Dr. Muhammad Ghulam Rabbani and Deputy High Commissioner of the Pakistan High Commission Mohammad Wasif were present at the occasion.

After the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor and the High Commissioner of Pakistan visited the Urdu Department of the University and inaugurated the computer lab and renovated classrooms established with the assistance of the Pakistan High Commission.

The program organized on this occasion was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam. Pakistan High Commissioner Imran Haider was present as the chief guest and Dean of the Faculty of Arts Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Sarkar was present as the special guest. Teachers, students of the department and concerned officials were present at the program.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam said that the Urdu Department of Dhaka University, established on July 1, 1921, is one of the oldest and most traditional departments of the university. For more than a century, the department has been making important contributions to the study of language, literature and culture.

Speaking as the chief guest, Pakistan High Commissioner Imran Haider said that the inauguration of the computer lab and renovated infrastructure of the Urdu department is not just the addition of new facilities; it is a reflection of the joint commitment of Bangladesh and Pakistan to education, cultural harmony and the future development of the young generation.
