To amplify the voices of coastal people most affected by the adverse impacts of climate change, the development organization Leaders held Global Action Day 2025 at a micro-stand in Shyamnagar upazila, Satkhira on Saturday.
The event highlighted coastal crises, humanitarian suffering and necessary actions, organized to draw the attention of world climate leaders to the COP-30 conference. Describing the coastal reality, Upazila Climate Advisory Forum president and freedom fighter Nazrul Islam said: “Our expectations for COP-30
decisions must prioritize the survival struggles of coastal people.” Forum secretary Ranjit Barman warned that without increased investment in climate adaptation programs, coastal communities will face even greater crises in the future. Hironmoyi Rani, a climate-affected woman from Ishwaripur union, shared her own experience and said, “I came here today hoping our hardships reach the global stage.
Among others, speakers included Nurjahan Parvin Jharna, secretary of Shyamnagar Upazila Public Library and former female vice chairman; Joydeb Zowardar and Shanta Rani speaking on behalf of Leaders, among others.
