Crowds throng Jamaat's election rally in Sylhet : If given responsibility, every person in country will get justice in inches : Dr. Shafiqur Rahman
Lukman Ahmed, Sylhet
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, if we get the responsibility, the face of the country will change in five years. We will establish justice in 56 thousand square miles of Bangladesh. Balanced development of every inch of the country will be ensured. The new Bangladesh that the young generation and mothers and sisters dream of will be achieved in five years. Those who have stolen the people's money will not be allowed to live in peace. They will be brought to any country. However, if someone voluntarily returns that money, it will be considered.
He said, Sylhet is the spiritual capital of the country. Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) came to fight against the then oppressive regime. We are his successors. Bangladesh has been going through the politics of oppression for the last 54 years. Jamaat-e-Islami has been the most oppressed. However, after the July 5, 2024 mass uprising, we said that Jamaat as a party will not take revenge against any oppressor.
We have forgiven. Our leaders and activists have kept their word. As a party, we have not taken revenge. We have not traded lawsuits. But many have traded lawsuits. They have oppressed. However, if someone has been personally harmed, they can take legal help.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at an election rally organized by Sylhet District and Metropolitan Jamaat at the Sylhet Government Alia Madrasa ground on Saturday afternoon.
Although the public meeting started at 2:30 pm, leaders and activists started arriving at the field in separate processions from noon. Before 3 pm, the Alia field was filled to the brim. After that, the surrounding streets became crowded with people. This was the first time that a large number of women participated in a Jamaat public meeting in Sylhet. Separate seating arrangements were made for them. In addition, family members of the martyrs of the July Uprising and injured July fighters were present on the public meeting stage.
After the speech, the Jamaat Ameer handed over the party symbols to the candidates of Jamaat and the alliance of 6 seats in Sylhet and 3 seats in Sunamganj and urged them to vote for them and make them winners. The leaders of Jamaat's central and local, 11-party alliance and various candidates spoke at the public meeting. Earlier, the Jamaat Ameer addressed separate election public meetings in Habiganj and Moulvibazar.
Referring to Sylhet being rich in mineral resources, he said, "Sylhet residents are not getting their share of the mineral resources of Sylhet. Gas has not reached all areas of Sylhet yet. Electricity has not reached all places. The rivers have been killed. Sylhet is filled with alcohol, marijuana and gambling. If we get the responsibility, we will stop these. Not only will the river be excavated, Bangladesh will be river-friendly. No one will be able to extort money in this country anymore. No one will have the courage and opportunity to take bribes in any office or court."
Jamaat's Central Working Committee member, Sylhet Metropolitan Ameer and Metropolitan 11 Party Alliance Coordinator Muhammad Fakhrul Islam presided over the public meeting, which was jointly organized by Metropolitan Nayeb Ameer Dr. Nurul Islam Babul, Secretary Mohammad Shahjahan Ali and District Secretary Sylhet-4 constituency MP candidate Joynal Abedin. The candidates of the alliance from 6 seats in Sylhet and 3 seats in Sunamganj were present.
Highlighting the corruption in the country in the past, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, "The country's money has been looted in 54 years. No one was an angel. Everyone has stolen, some more or less. We will not give peace to those who have stolen the people's money if we are given responsibility. We will take the money out of their stomachs. If corruption and theft stop, there will be development."
Referring to the expatriate-dominated area of Sylhet, he said, there is an international airport in Sylhet. The name of the boy is Padma Lochan. It is international in name only, but not enough international flights land here. We will turn this airport into an international airport not in name but in function. Sylhet Medical University will be transformed into a full-fledged university. The stagnant work of the Dhaka-Sylhet 6-lane highway will be completed quickly. The Dhaka-Sylhet railway line will be converted into a dual-gauge railway line and connected to the bullet train.
The Jamaat Ameer said, "We will provide equipment to farmers. Markets for agricultural products will be ensured. Nets will be given to fishermen. Whoever owns the net will have his own pond. The state will take responsibility for the children of tea garden workers."
Referring to the controversy over a post on his ex's account, the Jamaat Ameer said, "A group of mothers do not know how to respect their sisters. I protested against it, so they fired missiles at me. They hacked my ex's account and posted insulting posts about my mothers and sisters. What will they say now, the thief has been caught. But now they are speaking on the side of the thief. This is what the big voice of the thief's mother says. I have forgiven them."
He said, "We want to change the culture that the son of a king will be a king. We want to introduce that culture so that the son of a tea worker can also be appointed to a suitable position if he has the qualifications." The salaries and allowances of government officials and employees are comparatively low compared to the demand. If we are elected, we will ensure the salaries and allowances of government officials and employees. Even then, action will be taken against those who take bribes.
