Discussion meeting by Dinajpur Journalists' Union on May Day

On the occasion of May Day, the Journalists' Union of Dinajpur organized a discussion meeting on Thursday at 11:30 AM at the union’s office located on Station Road.
The meeting was conducted by Md. Belal Hossain, Joint General Secretary of the union and News Editor of Krishi O Amish newspaper.
GM Hiru, founding president of the Journalists' Union Dinajpur, attended the meeting as the chief guest. Other notable speakers included Mofachchil Majed (Dinajpur Correspondent of Bijoy TV), Mahidul Islam Ripon (Dinajpur Correspondent of Dainik Dinkal), Qurban Ali Sohel (Dainik Amader Kantho), Abu Kawser (The Morning Glory), Chandan Mitra (Dhaka Times), PC Das (Alokito Protidin), and Ariful Islam (Dainik Jonobani), among others from the organization.During the discussion, speakers highlighted that May 1st, International Workers' Day, is observed with dignity by labor unions and organizations worldwide. The day is symbolic of the struggle for workers’ rights, which is why it is known as Labor Day.They further stated that during the reign of past autocratic governments, many journalists lost their jobs and faced oppression. The remnants of such authoritarian regimes still exist in various sectors. The speakers called for identifying these elements and taking appropriate action against them.They also demanded the immediate withdrawal of all false cases filed against journalists during the autocratic regimes, emphasizing the history of oppression and abuse faced by the press during those times.
