An allegation has been raised against two individuals in Kushtia for allegedly failing to return Tk 590,000, including Tk 500,000 borrowed from an Italy-based expatriate and two mobile phones. The expatriate’s younger brother has also alleged that he was threatened with intimidation and death when he demanded repayment of the money.

In connection with the incident, Md. Jun Ali, 20, son of Saheb Ali of Khod Ailchara village under Ailchara Union in Kushtia, filed a written complaint with Kushtia Model Police Station.

The accused have been identified as Sojol Ali, 30, son of Shahjahan Ali of Swarupdaha village under Poradah Union in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia, and Nahid, 30, from the same area.

According to the complaint, Jun Ali’s elder brother, Jakir Hossain, 32, has been living in Italy for work. As the accused were previously acquainted and close to Jakir Hossain, they allegedly borrowed a total of Tk 500,000 from him at different times. They also allegedly took an iPhone and a Realme mobile phone from him. The complaint estimates the value of the two phones at around Tk 90,000.

Jun Ali claimed that while Jakir Hossain was abroad, the accused refused to repay the money despite repeated demands and allegedly threatened and intimidated him in various ways. The complaint also mentions allegations that the accused threatened to harm him with firearms if he continued demanding repayment.

Jun Ali further alleged that the accused threatened to abduct Jakir Hossain from the airport when he returns to Bangladesh next month.

The complaint also states that Jun Ali tried to contact the accused by phone regarding the matter, but they did not respond. Later, when he went to Haru Mor area of Ailchara under Kushtia Model Police Station and demanded repayment of the Tk 590,000 owed to his elder brother, the accused allegedly abused him verbally and issued various threats.

Several attempts were made to contact accused Sojol Ali by phone, but his phone was found switched off.

OC of Kushtia Model Police Station said over the phone, “The complaint will be investigated and legal action will be taken accordingly.”

Seeking security for himself and his family, as well as recovery of the Tk 590,000 allegedly owed to his Italy-based brother, Jun Ali submitted the written complaint to Kushtia Model Police Station.
