Local MP and District Jamaat Ameer Taj Uddin Khan made a surprise visit to the 250-bed General Hospital in Meherpur.
At that time, Jamaat leaders and activists identified a BNP worker as a broker, which led to a commotion and tension between BNP and Jamaat. The incident took place at around 12 noon last Wednesday in the new building of the hospital. However, no casualties were reported. According to eyewitnesses and relevant sources, while inquiring about various irregularities and outsourcing workers at the hospital, the MP wanted to know about his identity card and employment information. At that time, an argument broke out between the leaders and activists of one side of BNP present and the people accompanying him. At one stage, the MP's personal bodyguard slapped a Chhatra Dal worker, leading to a scuffle between the two sides.
Upon receiving the information, multiple teams of Meherpur Sadar Police Station went to the spot and brought the situation under control. For security reasons, MP Tajuddin Khan was taken from the hospital to his private office. Meanwhile, when news of the incident spread, Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal leaders and activists took positions at the hospital gate and raised anti-Jamaat slogans. Former president of Meherpur District Chhatra Shibir Saiful Islam said, the MP visited the hospital on a surprise visit. Our leaders and activists were also there. At that time, when he identified a broker and asked who had kept him here, they came in a group and created a ruckus. Meanwhile, district Chhatra Dal vice-president Sunny Ahmed said, the hospital authorities had appointed one of our workers named Robi as a volunteer at the elevator.
When Jamaat workers saw him and beat him, a ruckus arose there. Sadar Upazila Municipality BNP General Secretary Saidur Rahman alleged that the people accompanying the MP beat up the legally appointed employees of the hospital, calling them illegal. He condemned the incident. On the other hand, district Jamaat-e-Islami General Secretary Md. Iqbal Hossain claimed that a Chhatra Dal worker behaved disrespectfully when he asked about the additional outsourcing workers during a hospital visit.
Later, due to a clash between the worker and the bodyguard, Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal leaders and activists tried to attack. Meherpur Sadar Police Station OC Humayun Kabir said that the police quickly went to the spot and brought the situation under control and safely took the MP to his personal office. The situation is normal at present. Acting Superintendent of the hospital Dr. Fazlur Rahman said that the MP had come to visit the hospital.
He went to the Pathology Department of the new building and saw some new volunteers there, who had not yet been given ID cards. Some of his leaders and activists were also with him.
