One hanged, two acquitted in Noakhali double murder case

A court has sentenced Sabuj, the main accused in a double murder case in which two people were killed in a shooting incident over the construction of a boundary wall in Begumganj, Noakhali, to death. Parul and Farhad, the other two accused in the same case, have been acquitted.
Judge Touhidul Islam of the Noakhali Additional Sessions Judge-2nd Court announced the verdict on Thursday (August 13) at around 4 pm.
According to the case details, on April 2, 2013, a dispute arose between the two parties over the construction of a boundary wall for a pond at the house of Manu Mizhi in Jagdishpur village of Begumganj upazila. As a result, death row convict Sabuj opened fire on the opposing party. Setara Begum and Khalil were killed in the incident. Five more people were injured in the incident. It is reported that five of the injured are still ill. After the incident, Abdus Shahid filed a murder case with Begumganj Police Station. The case has GR number 499/13. After lengthy judicial proceedings and testimony, the court announced the verdict on Thursday.
Expressing satisfaction with the verdict, Additional Public Prosecutor Jasim Uddin Badal said that the main accused Sabuj was sentenced to death and the other two accused Parul and Farhad were acquitted. On the other hand, the defendant's lawyer Advocate Shamsuddin Ahmed said that an appeal will be filed against the verdict in the High Court.
