Financial assistance provided to martyrs' families of July-August Uprising in Sylhet

Sylhet Bureau

Divisional Commissioner Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi, paying tribute to the martyrs of the July-August uprising, said that this state was born through the blood of ordinary people.

The country would never have gained independence if the general masses hadn’t taken to the streets through the student-public uprising.

He made these remarks on Monday  at the Sylhet Zila Parishad Conference Hall during the financial assistance distribution event organized by Sylhet Zila Parishad from its own fund to the families of martyrs from Sylhet district who died in the July-August 2024 student-public uprising.

Presided over by Additional Divisional Commissioner (General and Revenue) Debojit Singh, special guests at the event were  Chief Executive Officer of Sylhet Zila Parishad Sandwip Kumar Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Anwar Uz Zaman, President of Sylhet Press Club Ikramul Kabir Iku, and Editor of the Daily Jalalabad newspaper Muktabis Un-Noor.

Calling for standing always in favor of truth and justice and against injustice, he said that the transformation that began in July and August has led to the creation of a new Bangladesh. The new state will belong to the masses. The main responsibility of this new state will be to establish the rightful rights of the people and ensure their welfare. All government officials and employees must perform this responsibility with conscience. Everyone must remain united against fascism. To build the dream Bangladesh of the July martyrs, a prosperous society must be formed on the basis of equality and justice, eliminating all forms of discrimination from the state and society.

It is mentioned  that the people of this country have always been fighters, he further said that the martyrs of the July uprising are the finest sons of the new Bangladesh. At a time when the people were drowning in despair due to one and a half decades of oppression, misrule, and injustice, the brave children of the nation sacrificed their lives to free the country from the chains of tyranny. Their martyrdom has created a new chapter in global history. Everyone must come forward in unity to build the non-discriminatory Bangladesh envisioned by the martyrs.

At the end of the event, Divisional Commissioner Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi handed over financial aid cheques  to the families of 14 martyred student-public figures from Sylhet district.
