Upazila administration seized 10 trucks, destroyed 4 dredgings in Goalando

Goalando Upazila Executive Officer Md. Nahidur Rahman is confiscating 10 drum trucks, destroying 4 dredging machines and a large number of pipes for illegally extracting and transporting soil and sand from different areas of GoalandaGoalando Upazila in Rajbari at 10 am on Wednesday.
The UNO conducted a raid at Godhuli Park, owned by former mayor of Goalanda Municipality and Awami League leader Sheikh Nizam, in the West Ujanchar area of the upazila and seized five sand-carrying trucks with three disconnected dredger machines for extracting sand from a large reservoir there.
According to the upazila administration sources, in the last three days, Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Md. Nahidur Rahman has destroyed a total of 4 dredger machines for illegally extracting sand and seized 10 soil-carrying drum trucks for transporting soil and sand during raids in various places in the upazila.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday afternoon, May 6, the upazila administration destroyed 50/60 pipes of a dredger belonging to a sand trader named Shahid in the Makhon Royer Para area of Ujanchar Union of the upazila for extracting sand from the dead Padma River. Sand trader Shahid and local UP member Lipu Mondal have attacked a local man named Dulal Biswas, accusing him of providing information to the upazila administration in this matter.
However, UNO Nahidur Rahman said that although Lipu Mandal was supposed to dump sand on a government road there, sand was being dumped in various places around. For that, a raid was conducted there. Dulal Biswas or anyone else in the area did not tell him anything about this. Strict action will be taken if this is excessive.
The UNO also said that such campaigns have been carried out in the past, are still being carried out, and will continue in the future to ensure the safety of life and property on the roads by stopping the illegal extraction of soil from agricultural land or the extraction of sand from rivers and water bodies without permission.
The drivers of the soil-laden drum trucks seized in the operation are absconding. If the owners are found, they will be warned and fined a large sum of money under the Sand and Soil Management Act.
